Competition Rules - Uncontested Scrums
Here are the various competition rules for uncontested scrums. These are regardless of whether the team calls for uncontested scrums before or during the game.
(Note: There is no restriction on the Nr 9 following the ball at uncontested scrums in ANY form of 15-per-side rugby in Sydney.)
PREMIERSHIP / Premiership Colts rugby
- Free kick option to team not responsible for uncontested scrums
- Free kick option only at scrums where team not responsible for uncontested scrums would have the feed
- At uncontested scrums, ONLY the team responsible for uncontested scrums are not allowed back-row moves. The scrum half must first distribute the ball (penalty is a Free Kick)
- There are additional sanctions that apply to uncontested scrums, for more details download the Competition Rules above
SUBURBAN / Women's rugby
- Free kick option to team not responsible for uncontested scrums
- Free kick option only at scrums where team not responsible for uncontested scrums would have the feed
- Scrums as per Laws of the Game, ie. NO restrictions on Nr. 8 or back-row moves for either side
- There are additional sanctions that apply to uncontested scrums, for more details download the Competition Rules above
SCHOOLS rugby (ISA, GPS)
- No free kick option
- Scrums as per Laws of the Game (and ARU U19 Variations), ie. NO restrictions on Nr. 8 or back-row moves for either side
JUNIORS rugby U12 and up (MSZ, MWZ, MNZ) plus SCHOOLS (CAS)
- Free kick option to team not responsible for uncontested scrums
- Free kick option only at scrums where team not responsible for uncontested scrums would have the feed
- Scrums as per Laws of the Game (and ARU U19 Variations), ie. NO restrictions on Nr. 8 or back-row moves for either side
